Srinagar, Aug 26 (KNO): A portion of the main road near Police Station Nishat in Srinagar has caved in, creating a deep pit along a busy stretch used by pedestrians and motorists, prompting locals to seek immediate repairs.
The damaged portion is located opposite the local Jamia Masjid and near several business establishments, making it a potential safety concern, particularly during periods of heavy traffic.
Locals from the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that temporary barricades have been placed around the affected portion to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from approaching the damaged area.
They said a permanent solution is needed at the earliest to prevent the affected section from further deteriorating.
The residents urged the concerned authorities to ascertain the cause of the cave-in and check whether any underground water, drainage or sewerage infrastructure had been damaged or was contributing to the erosion.
Firdous Ahmad, a local, said the condition of the road needs urgent attention. “The damaged portion could become more dangerous if it is not repaired in time. We appeal to the administration and concerned departments to take immediate measures and ensure the road is restored properly,” he said.
The residents called upon the Srinagar district administration and concerned civic and engineering agencies to undertake an immediate technical assessment and carry out the necessary restoration work—(KNO)
